Freshman Year

WHAT YOU SHOULD HAVE ALREADY DONE

  • Understood teacher expectations for your courses. High school courses can be challenging, and semesters tend to go by fast!

  • Make sure you understand your school's graduation requirements.

  • Attended initial meetings for a few high school clubs and register for ones you like.

WHAT YOU SHOULD FOCUS ON NOV-DEC

  • Focus on your getting good grades.  

  • Check out various engineering and computer science related majors.

  • Check out our blog which includes intro to various careers, admissions advice, and a lot more.  

  • Start thinking about what type of career you are interested in. 

 

Sophomore Year

WHAT YOU SHOULD HAVE ALREADY DONE

  • Registered for challenging sophomore courses that help build a solid base. 

  • Met with your school counselor and talk about Course Requirements​, your interests, AP/IB/Honors courses available, Standardized tests, etc.

  • Participate in clubs / extra-curricular activities of your liking​

WHAT YOU SHOULD FOCUS ON NOV-DEC

  • Make sure you get good grades. 

  • For the top 2-3 career choices in your mind, talk to somebody in that field to gain insights about their workload, nature of job, challenges, opportunities, skills needed, etc.

 

Junior Year

WHAT YOU SHOULD HAVE ALREADY DONE

  • Attended a University Summer program to experience college life

  • Registered for challenging courses that fit with your career interests. 

  • Practiced SAT / SAT subject or ACT tests you plan to take.

  • Scheduled your SAT and Subject SAT. 

WHAT YOU SHOULD FOCUS ON NOV-DEC

  • Make sure you maintain a good GPA. 

  • Talk to your counselor about courses, tests, and local scholarships for college.

  • Take lead role in a club. Continue to volunteer.

  • Schedule your SAT and Subject SAT if you haven't scheduled them already. Note that due to Covid-19 pandemic, SAT may not be administered in your area. 
 

Senior Year

WHAT YOU SHOULD HAVE ALREADY DONE

  • Selected Universities and majors, and created a master schedule.

  • Taken SAT / ACT. 

  • Talked to your parents about college costs / scholarships. 

  • Written essays and have them proof-read.

  • Asked for recommendation letter from your teachers.

  • Complete financial aid / FAFSA application if you qualify.

  • Arrange for school transcripts to be sent to Colleges.

WHAT YOU SHOULD FOCUS ON NOV-DEC

  • Fill out and submit college Applications

  • Make sure you have sent the test scores and school transcript to colleges you are applying to

  • Fill out CSS/ Financial Aid profile

  • Double-check each University web-site, and make sure you take care of all application requirements and documentation (e.g. recommendation letters). 

  • Go through the College Board college application checklist
